New Skoda Fabia Revealed Ahead of Geneva Motor Show
If you’re considering a new Skoda for sale, you are likely to have thought about the Skoda Fabia. The Fabia has been a staple of the Skoda line up for years, and so a refreshed model always causes intense interest. Although it was set for a full debut in March at the Geneva Motor Show, Skoda HQ has released details of the updates we can expect. As one of the key new Skoda cars for sale, the new Fabia has been refreshed with a myriad of improvements. Although the MY18 Fabia is not an all-new model, there are some interesting improvements compared to the current Fabia.
The refreshed Fabia is available with a three-cylinder MPI or TSI one litre engine in Europe exclusively. The MPI has 44kW or 55kW, and the TSI has 70kW or 81kW. According to Skoda Australia communications boss, Paul Pottinger, the current engine will carry over into the new Fabia. This means that there will be a choice of the 70kW or 81kW TSI engine locally. Currently, the base model is offered as a five speed manual, while higher spec models feature a DSG automatic transmission.
The New Technology
As with many of the new Skoda for sale models, the new Fabia has been given some technology upgrades. The MY18 Fabia will be available with the latest Skoda semi autonomous driver assistance technologies. This includes rear cross traffic alerts, auto switch high beam headlamps and blind spot monitoring. The new model will retain the rear view camera, auto emergency brakes, and front assist package currently available.
The highlight of the new Fabia is the updated infotainment system. The “Swing” infotainment is based on the 6.5 inch centre console display that is home to Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. There is also an option to add navigation that will also provide real time traffic info.
There are also some clever innovations that showcase the “Simply Clever” Skoda mantra. This includes a fuel filler cap that incorporates a tyre tread measurement tool and integrated ice scraper.
The final upgrades are to the exterior design. The MY18 Fabia has received a Volkswagen Group inspired mid life refreshment to the exterior aesthetics. This means that you may notice a more aggressive and sharper modification to the current design.
The new Skoda Fabia is due to arrive in Australian showrooms in Q3, and Paul Pottinger has stated “no rises planned” for pricing. So, the new Fabia is sure to be a hit with drivers.
